ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT
Our customer is looking for an experienced Relay Protection Specialist to support multiple ongoing projects for our customer. The assignment is carried out in a technically advanced environment within the transmission and distribution grid, where protection systems are critical for system reliability, safety, and availability.
You will contribute specialist expertise to ensure high‑quality protection solutions for substations and grid infrastructure, working closely with project managers, test organizations, and installation teams. This role suits someone who thrives in project‑driven environments and wants to work with critical energy infrastructure.
Technical Context of the Assignment
The assignment takes place in a large‑scale energy infrastructure environment where advanced control and protection systems are essential for safe and stable grid operation. Projects cover both new installations and upgrades of substations and are characterized by high requirements for selectivity, reliability, and compliance with national and international standards.
The environment is technically complex and often international, with structured engineering processes, thorough verification activities, and close collaboration across multiple technical disciplines – from design and configuration to testing and commissioning.
THE ASSIGNMENT – RESPONSIBILITIES
In the role of Relay Protection Specialist, you will, among other things:
- Develop relay protection solutions for transmission and distribution substations (e.g. ABB/Hitachi Energy, GE, Siemens)
- Perform protection settings and selectivity studies
- Review drawings, signal lists, and technical documentation
- Support project managers, test leads, and installation teams during project execution
- Participate in FAT and SAT activities and support troubleshooting during testing and commissioning
- Ensure that protection solutions meet applicable technical requirements, standards, and project specifications
REQUIREMENTS PROFILE
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent technical background
- Experience in relay protection design, commissioning, or troubleshooting
- A strong understanding of power system behavior and protection principles
- Familiarity with IED platforms such as ABB/Hitachi Energy, Siemens, or Schneider
- Knowledge of Svenska kraftnät (SvK) and/or Vattenfall standards, processes, and technical requirements (highly valuable)
- Ability to work independently and deliver results in a project‑driven environment
Language requirements:
– English and Swedish: good communication skills, written and spoken
